THERE WAS A VICTORIAN EXCITEMENT in the dusty streets of Smallvania last night when Mayor Puddleduck switched on the first ever toy electric-powered light in Toyland. Neither Andrew's nor Philip's Toylands had proper electric lights, and until yesterday it was only the bedside lamp in Kensington Palace that could lay claim to being remotely close to a toy light.
'I am delighted that there is now a light in Smallvania, on my horse-drawn caravan' said the Mayor.
Some were critical that amid the credit crunch, the Mayor appeared to be splashing out taxpayers' money on lavish lightbulbs, while businesses such as Bramble Enterprises struggle to pay their debts.
'I'd like to make clear I bought the AA batteries and light with my own money!' he added.
'I just think its fantastic that the first owner of a proper electric toy light is a duck!' said local Bostonian Ducky Mallard, who didn't appear at all jealous. Ducky is four years old.

Girls club sweeps to easy victory in Monopoly game
THE GIRLS CLUB WERE CELEBRATING last night on the Girls' Club cruiseliner after their representative Emily easily beat Philip, Emily's brother and representative of the Toyish Boys' Club, in a game of Monopoly.
'We were all delighted to see Emily take three train stations and several key properties including the Strand and Whitechapel Road. We were worried when Philip took Mayfair and once commanded extortionate rent on that site but we quickly recovered with a speedy sale of Pall Mall' said Sabrina Spellman of the Girl's Club.
Ryan, who chaired the Boys' Club meeting of that night, was less pleased. 'You'd think Philip, who is always down in London and is going to live there and everything would do better. He didn't even get Fleet Street where his job is! A postman could have done better!' Ryan is the Toyland postman.
'I watched the whole thing!' said Ducky. Ducky is four years old.
