Spurry returns from hairdressers with broken hook hairstyle

Spurry Steakface stunned Toyland residents this week by finally following through with her promise to have her 'hook' cut into a 'broken hook' hairstyle.

'It fits perfectly with the completed redecoration of Toyland - and now Spurry's children have moved out, she's discovering a new her,' said the famous Polly Pocket Hair Salon.

Other commentators were less convinced: 'Spurry's new locks hardly make her look younger. The botched operation clearly cut in the wrong place, ' said gossip rag the Toytown Star.

Miss Gonzales class get Secret Santa allocations

SUNNYDALE HIGH PUPILS were pleased this morning to be presented with a festive hat of names. Each person chose a name at random out of the hat and will buy a present for that person before the end-of-term assembly on 21 December.

The Toyland Express cannot reveal which pupil got who, of course, but excitement was visible on the faces of some toys more than others.

'Oh I'm so pleased I got this person!!' said Jimothy Bandersnatch, 11, bouncing up and down. 'She'll definitely like me after I get her the perfect present!'

'Oh drat,' wailed Kaitlin Cooper, on the other hand. 'I really do not know what to get for this person. Boys are so hard to buy for!... Not that it's necessarily a boy.'

Rachel Bumpkin was heard asking the teacher: 'Um, does this person still go to Sunnydale after the big redecoration?' Miss Gonzales was then seen quickly taking Harry Atwood's name out of the hat.

Michael Buble to switch on Toyland Christmas lights

WITH THE MAIN PHASE OF THE GREAT REDECORATION FINALLY OVER, toys gathered this evening around their fireplaces to hear that over the next few days, Emily would be decorating Toyland as usual with its trademark coloured fairy lights.

Chris Steakface was especially excited to hear that they would be turned on by the famous singer Michael Buble, who has just released a Christmas album.

'Michael Buble is coming to Toyland!' said Chris, owner of a Smallvanian steakhouse restaurant.

Other toys were looking forward to Christmas for different reasons. Putting up the Jellycat Christmas tree, Marissa Cooper was anxious that the house's green and red stockings wouldn't go missing.

'Um, Sabrina, you can have the green one...', she commented, hanging up a red stocking on a drawing pin, using its Christmas decoration style loop.

The most popular Christmas gifts in Boston and Smallvania this year look set to be dressing tables, iTunes vouchers and ski clothes. Less popular are traditional favourite such as dolls houses, small toys and Lego bricks.

Greek Dolly fate unnerves toys

KING CHEEKY has reassured toys that the sudden exit of Greek Dolly from Toyland was an 'isolated case' and other toys don't need to worry about the same happening to major characters.

As the redecoration of Toyland continued to cause widespread disruption, Greek Dolly unexpectedly fell out of her house on Sunday afternoon. A minute's silence was held the next day.

'When Greek Dolly first joined Toyland, no one expected or planned for her to leave this way,' writes King Cheeky in today's Express, whilst expressing regret.

Some leading experts have described the demise of Greek Dolly as 'inevitable', questioning how she was even allowed into the exclusive Toyland club despite not having a rich personality like her neighbours.

'I saw her spend a lot of money in the Polly Pocket Hairdressers', said Spurry Steakface. 'I know she wasn't a main character but I'm worried about how these cuts in toy numbers are affecting the whole bedroom!'

US toys celebrate Thanksgiving

AMERICAN CHARACTERS ACROSS TOYLAND have been giving thanks for various things today to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Leading the lunchtime toasts was famous Jellycat Marissa Cooper, who was thankful for 'still being, like, really popular' and 'living with all my best friends'.

Claire McKuchen, from Texas, had her fiery red hair freshly washed for the occasion, and said thank you for the views over Emily's room from her house. Tucking into her Thanksgiving turkey, she proclaimed, 'I like birds!'

Other American characters present were Kaitlin, Lucas, Elmo and, making a special guest appearance, Canada Jack. Hershey Bear, despite being American, was conspicuous by his absence.

'Occupy Toyland' plans sit-in

TOYS OLD AND YOUNG HAVE EXPRESSED support for forthcoming protests against Emily's rumoured cuts in toy numbers. Protest group 'Occupy Toyland' announced on its website late this evening that it planned to hold a 'sit-in' at an undisclosed location to 'show solidarity' against the measures.

Already painting his placard, one forgotten Sylvanian, Graham Greybear, told our reporter: 'Already Emily has slashed support for Sylvanians living in Toyland. King Cheeky is using the forthcoming Olympics and redecoration as a smokescreen to hide plans to reduce Toyland to just a few, select, privileged classes!'

The organising website uses the slogan 'We are the 75%', referring to the percentage of toys that Emily might have transported to the loft of the Land of Old Toys in the next four years. It calls on toys to take up inches of carpet space, with velcro if possible, to make Emily rethink her ideas.

The Mayor of Boston, a charismatic teddy affectionately known by his fans as simply 'Whitey', spoke out against the sit-in.

'Y'alright!' he said. 'Well, you're not right. Some toys will temporarily have to move whilst huge redecoration takes place across Toyland. It simply isn't true that Emily has made any decisions to cut any toys at all. No-one needs to worry, whether Bratz or Build-a-Bear.'

Others have criticised the protest as having 'no actual suggestions about what should be done in Toyland', which is in a significant state of disrepair as reported by this paper last week. The Toyland sun is hanging by a wire from the ceiling as this article goes to press. Smallvanian locals have also expressed alarm that the protest camp might get in the way of the weekly Hurricane Julie cleaning storm.

'No one is going to Sunnyside,' added White Teddy in a popular reference. 'Only to Sunnydale.'

Fluffy rug does little to impress residents of 'messy' Toyland

RESIDENTS OF TOYLAND were unconvinced this week by attempts by Emily to make up for the growing state of disrepair in Boston and Smallvania.

Unveiling a new rug, King Cheeky, with personal adviser Marissa Cooper by his side, said it was a 'sign of brilliant new things to come. Rah rah rah!'

Perhaps, said commentators in fringe Smallvanian rag 'the Smallvanian Flute': 'King Cheeky needs to open his eyes to the graffiti up the walls and the filthy sky above Sunshine Avenue'.

The King has been disappointed after the volunteers he recruited to repaint the sky failed to do anything other than stay stuck to the bed drinking increasing amounts of tea.

Some Bostonians remain optimistic that the fluffy new rug is the first in a series of measures for Toyland and Boston in particular to be renovated in time for the 2012 Olympics.

'It may be a building site now, but it'll be worth it in the end. By the way, all the Toyland trains and buses will be closed for essential maintenance works this weekend,' added King Cheeky.

'It is a very fluffy rug! I personally am excited by its fluffy whiteness,' said White Teddy.

The Only Way is Smallvania launched

Telly addicts such as Spurry Steakface will be pleased to hear the announcement of a new series, titled 'The Only Way is Smallvania'.
The show, following a reality TV format, films the day to day lives of X young, glamorous and single Smallvania residents: Mazzy Star, Adriana Atwood, Zara, Spurry's sister, Mayor Lucas and Elmo.
The producers of the show insist that all on screen conversations are real, and not scripted. In the first episode, viewers will be treated to a tense scene where Adriana threatens to move out, and a light-hearted scene where the young characters have a bubble bath foam party.
There are also rumours of a romantic storyline in the show, between Zara and Elmo.
'No there are not!' commented both characters to our reporter, suspiciously simultaneously.
The show will compete for audiences with rival reality programme 'Made in Boston', which follows the lives of young characters in the most desirable part of Toyland. That show follows HRH Prince Simba and his sister Princess Carly; Jellycat dolls Kaitlin, Stella, Chico, Luke and Lizzie; and Bear Factory residents of the expensive bed district, Ducky, Rachel and Mitzi.
It remains to be seen which show viewers will prefer.
'I think we might be stuffed!' joked Ducky, to roaring laughter and clinking champagne glasses.
Ducky is 7 years old.

Jimothy brings Catalina apple

Local schoolbear Jimothy Bandersnatch, 12, shocked fellow Sunnydale pupils this morning by bringing his teacher an apple.'I normally eat my apples at break time in little slices from a ziplock bag, and I always think Miss Gonzales would like some,' said Jimothy, explaining his decision to bemused classmates. 'All this talk of Apple over the weekend gave me the idea.'Also speaking at breaktime, Mitzi Bumpkin questioned: 'Is this really newsworthy?'

New term starts at Sunnydale High

New term starts at Sunnydale High

Miss Gonzales was back in her red teaching dress today as Professor Gloves cut the ribbon at Sunnydale High to mark the start of a new school year.

Mitzi Bumpkin was the first to arrive, at 7 o'clock in the morning, 'keen to make a good impression.'

Jimothy Bandersnatch, 12, proudly unveiled his new metallic pencil case, stuffed with felt tips with all the lids still on. Unconfirmed reports state that the pencil case was confiscated by 2.30pm after repeatedly being knocked onto the hard floor, causing several loud crashes and a difficult Tippex spill.

Perhaps the most significant addition to the school, built in the architecturally questionable year of 1976, was new teaching assistant Adriana Atwood, brother of postman Ryan Atwood.

The position is a career change for the Bratz doll who previously found success as a baker girl, delivering bread across Toyland. She lost that job after the Sylvanian bakery was shut down and relocated to the loft. Unwilling to move, Adriana faded into the shadow of her athletic blonde haired and blue eyed postman brother. Her departure from Toyland storylines was regularly discussed.

Introducing Miss Atwood, as she will be known, at the start of term lunchtime feast (£4.50, cheques payable in advance to Smallvania City Council), headmaster Professor Gloves said she would provide an 'excellent teaching role model to the small toy pupils at Sunnydale.'

Elsewhere in the thriving Toyland kingdom, charismatic quacker Ducky Mallard enrolled for another year at the specialist Duckdale Academy free school. And, after scrubbing the graffiti from the blackboard and sharing the school textbooks one-between-three, the Land of Old Toys Comprehensive began its new term too.

Toys return from London

DUCKY MALLARD, Spurry Steakface and Jimothy Bandersnatch have returned from a trip to London with Emily.

Being dragged up the stairs underneath Emily's shoulder, Ducky observed, 'It was the same as most holidays for me. I enjoyed a comfy hotel room and didn't really explore the city.' Ducky is in fact rumoured to have spent some time swimming in the River Thames to Hampton Court, and enjoying being fed bread by visitors to Trafalgar Square. The beady eyed beaked bird refused to comment on these suggestions.

Mallard was accompanied by Jimothy Bandersnatch, a twelve year old honeybear and pupil at Sunnydale High. Jimothy was disappointed to be 'barely photographed', though he did enjoy some time being carted around with his backpack to Leicester Square and neighbouring shopping areas, despite being kept in Emily's handbag for approximately 99% of the time.

The third guest to London was a controversial stowaway. Local restauranteur Spurry Steakface snuckher way to London, revealing herself at the famous Italian restaurant Sergio's, before demanding to have her photo taken with the owner to be displayed next to the tables.

'I am famous don'tcha know! One time Queen of Smallvania, currently working at the most famous steakplace in Toyland!!' she squealed, to the bemused faces of Londoners.

Emily expressed gasped surprise followed by happiness at Spurry's arrival. She follows in the footsteps of Emu Ostrich, who snuck to Granny's house last year. That emu received a royal title from King Cheeky for bravery - however no awards seem forthcoming for the miniature monkey Spurry.

It is not known when Emily's next trip will be, however speculation is rife that a Christmastime ski trip may be on the cards and toys have eagerly been collecting application forms in anticipation all weekend.

Toyland celebrates Royal Wedding

THE RESIDENTS of Toyland celebrated the Royal Wedding yesterday by watching the ceremony on a huge 17.5 inch screen.

'Oh her dress is just beautiful!! Its much better than mine which is so old and tatty and stitched up by comparison. Although I do have a Jellycat wedding dress in my closet,' commented Marissa Cooper, 22, lining the streets of Boston Park with her surprised looking boyfriend White Teddy.

Speculation grew within Toyland about whether one day it would see its own Royal Wedding, between heir to the throne Simba Spots and his girlfriend Stella Nightingale, both still schoolchildren. Kensington Palace declined to comment.

Speculation grows about new guinea pig names

Guinea names: the odds

Coco and Chanel - 2:1
Cinnamon and Cumin - 50:1
Kate and Pippa - 75:2
Beatrice and Eugenie - 98:1

'I remember when I rode on her back!' said Marissa's little sister Kaitlin, 11.

'I remember when she stormed into my house. But I still liked her!' said former Toyland entrepreneur Barry Bramble, who now lives in the loft.

Jimothy Bandersnatches place on ski trip

LOCAL HONEYBEAR SCHOOLBOY JIMOTHY BANDERSNATCH, aged eleven, was excited to be chosen to go skiing with Emily this week on the Sunnydale School Ski Trip.

'Excuse-me excuse-me!!! Coming through with my ticket and my bag and my ski stuff!!' the bear said has he hurried anxiously past Express reporters early yesterday morning.

Marissa Cooper, who has now finished studying and is working a long-hours job advising the King, was disappointed not to be taken, despite owning salopettes.

'This Jimothy character came out of nowhere and now he's everywhere,' she advised the King. 'I mean, I guess I shouldn't be angry - I've been on every other ski trip. But, y'know. I wish I was going!'

New character arriving this weekend

TOYLAND WAS HAPPY to hear today that a new member of the Jellycat Bunch is to move to Boston, and is expected this weekend.

King Cheeky confirmed at 12.30pm this afternoon that the Toyland taxes would pay for the airfare of Catalina Gonzales, mother of character Chico Gonzales, aged 11. She will be flying in from Latin America (via a connecting flight in Newcastle).

Pictured: Catalina, expected to be 12" tall.

Marissa Cooper, the 22 year old owner of the Jellycat flat, said 'I'm so looking forward to welcoming Catalina to our home, and Chico is too of course. It's gonna be a squeeze but hey, I think we can manage 10 Jellycat dolls plus pets, clothes and accessories!'

The news comes days after it was announced Emily would be visiting Mexico, no doubt with Chico in tow.

Jimothy named Character of the Year 2010

AT A STAR STUDDED CEREMONY held in the capital city of Toyland, new character Jimothy Bandersnatch has been named best character of 2010.

The honour is awarded every year to the 'best character' in terms of originality, storylines, voice and so on, of the year. It cannot be awarded to somebody who has already won it. Previous winners include Ducky Mallard, Marissa Cooper and Spurry Steakface, who have all gone on to be top characters featured almost every day in storylines in Emily's Toyland.

Jimothy, aged 11, attends Sunnydale High School with other Toyland residents including Kaitlin Cooper and Mitzi Bumpkin. He is a small and very soft honeybear, known for his trademark purple backpack, in which he keeps 'everything he might need'.

The ceremony was marred in controversial jokes by the host, Cheeky Spots, who poked fun at certain toys in the audience.

Local bunny "dreams squashed"

Local "cutesy" Mitzi Bumpkin has been involved in another upset. Mitzi tells the Toyland Express - They had cleaned out the pool by the time I returned, and all I heard was "It doubles up as a prison too!", before I was squished into a tiny, damp box!
Ryan Atwood and Lucas Gabriel had no comment, but more is sure to follow what has been reported as an anti- Mitzi feud.

Local bunny turned away from pool scandal

SMALLVANIA'S NEW SWIMMING POOL was swimming in scandal after a soft big toy was denied entry, it emerged tonight.

'They turned me away for being "too lovely", which was kinda complimentary but kinda disappointing' said the bunny in question, Mitzi Bumpkin, 11.

The pool owners issued a statement denying any wrongdoing.

'Today a big, soft and furry toy sought to swim in our pool, which is filled with real water. As such one major health risk to soft toys is serious fur damage. We explained this to the young lady in question by telling her she was "too lovely", as we told several other characters'

Bumpkin was a Christmas present for Emily and has emerged as the most successful character of January 2011. Her attention-seeking nature has irritated some, but endeared others, including her housemate and fellow Bear Factory/Build-a-Bear creation, Ducky Mallard.
